Fulham vs W Brom
Sky Bet Ch’boat
12:30pm Saturday 14th September
The late header of semi Ajayi earned West Brom a point as they drew 1-1 against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The error of marcus Bettinelli allowed afterwards Anthony Knockaert had placed his side before four minutes Ajayi to go home after 80 minutes in the Sky Bet Championship clash on Saturday.
It meant even though they remain a little off the pace of the group leaders that the pitches were shared between a couple of the promotion favourites.
Fulham dominated the first half and also had a couple chances to take the lead. It was Tom Cairney who discovered his own way through, was fed by Harrison Reed, while later in the half Sam Johnstone was called upon to deny Knockaert and Bobby Reid in succession, but he rattled the bar with his campaign.
West Brom were pleased to sit back but failed to carve out a chance. Charlie Austin especially had two half chances to score, even the initial on 28 minutes which he acrobatically smashed over the pub, the seven minutes before the rest as he headed Matt Phillips’ free-kick straight into the arms of Bettinelli.
It took a bit of magic shortly after half-time to get Knockaert to break the deadlock. Whether he intended it or not is a different thing altogether, however, the winger was able to find the best corner with a beautiful attempt from the edge.
West Brom didn’t actually threaten till he gifted them their equaliser with 10 minutes to move Bettinelli, who was in excellent form all afternoon. His effort watched him hand the ball into the path of both Ajayi, who had an empty net.
Reed is onto his loan stint at the Sky Bet Championship, with spent campaigns at Norwich and Blackburn, also seems to be getting a quality midfielder at the level. He helped control the match for big swathes of the activity at Craven Cottage with his passing. As it stands he is keeping Kevin McDonald and stalwarts Stefan Johansen on the bench.
Fulham visit Sheffield Wednesday at 3pm Saturday. West Brom are in action at home to Huddersfield on Sunday 22 at 12pm, live on Sky Sports Football.
